Biography
Rich fields of mineral resources of the Central Kazakhstan attracted human attention back in ancient times and became the object of mining since the time when people learnt how to smelt the first metal – copper. Information about the existence of center of metallurgy and mining in the Central and North-Eastern Kazakhstan was found in the notes of scientists-geologists and mining engineers who did systematic research in the steppe of Saryarka in the XIX century. Starting from 1824 unlimited access to the ancient ore pits was open and with the help of Kazakh ore experts mining manufacturers and traders found enormous number of gold fields, copper, tin and lead fields and everything at the places of ancient mines.During the Great Patriotic War mining companies of Kazakhstan became powerful source of minerals for production of ferrous, nonferrous and rare metals, coal and chemical resources. With the purpose of acceleration of mining of mineral resources, reconstruction of the mining industry of the republic for war needs and practical assistance to mining companies, on the initiative of the member of Academy K. I. Satpaev by the Decree of the Presidium of Kazakh branch of the Academy of Science of USSR № 4 of 21.02.1943 as a part of the Institute of geological sciences of KFAN “Mining Sector” was created. In 1945 in conformity with the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of KazSSR of 6 December 1944 № 689 «Mining Sector» of the Institute geological sciences of KFAN USSR was transformed into the Mining Institute of Kazakh branch of AS USSR.
The leaders of the Institute and organizers of the scientific activity during the years 1945 - 2001 were: candidate of the technical sciences Mining Institute After D. A. KunaevI. Z. Scientific and Organizational Activity
The Institute is the leading organization for implementation of the republican target scientific and technical as well as the state fundamental scientific and research programs in the field of mining; is the general designer of a number of large mining companies of Kazakhstan.
In the Institute works the Academic Council which is the highest collective authority of the institute that jointly with the board of directors determines the strategy, objectives and tasks of the Institute’s development, plans its operation for the current year and for the future. The membership of the Academic Council is confirmed by the authorized body – NC IMR RK. The Academic Council has two sections.
The Thesis Council is available at the Institute for defense of candidate’s and doctor’s theses for 5 specialties: “Geotechnology” “Geomechanics, destruction of rocks with explosion, mine aerogasdynamics and mine thermal physics”, “Labor protection”, “Geoecology” and “Geoinformation science”.
During the period since 1971 through 2009 in the Institute 51 doctoral theses were defended, including 39 these defended by the employees of the Institute, 327 candidate’s theses including 210 – by the employees of the Institute.
For more than 50 years the Institute issues proceedings “Scientific and Technical Provision of Mining Production”, which form a part of the scientific issues recommended for publication of the main results of the doctoral theses.
During the years, 8 employees of the Institute were elected to be the corresponding members and 3 as full members of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At present time the qualification level of the Institute is determined by: 1 member of the Academy, 2 members of the Academy of Mineral Resources, 1 full member of the International Academy of Information, 1 corresponding member of the Academy of Mineral Resources, 25 doctors (out of which 16 are professors) and 30 candidates of sciences, experienced designers in the field of the underground and open mining. The total number of the Institute’s employees is 250.
Since the date of its foundation, the Institute paid much attention to the newness of developments, it has 958 author's certificates, 33 Russian patents, 11 patents and 2 innovation patents of Kazakhstan, 11 intellectual property certificates.
The majority of the Institute’s developments were done in close cooperation with the employees of production, scientific and research as well as research and development and engineering institutes. Therefore the large part of the works of MI was successfully used and implemented in production in the form of finished machines and mechanisms, technical projects, process regulations, standard documents, methods and methodical instruction with significant economic effect.
