On July 3, 2012 Acting Chairman "Foundation of Peace of Kazakhstan" Mr.Kazybek Shaikh met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Foundation for Peace Salutskiy Anatoly Samuilovich.During the meeting, Mr. Shaikh and Mr. Salutsky discussed the need to develop public diplomacy as a tool for strengthening the friendship between the peoples in addition to the interaction between the states’ authorities. The parties also agreed on the need for joint activities in Kazakhstan, aimed at of the special role of Nursultan Nazarbayev in creating peace without war atom.

Russian Foundation for Peace Foundation History

In the early fifties, millions of supporters of peace have signed the First Stockholm Appeal "On Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons", which played an important role in maintaining peace in the world. Despite the fact that it was a difficult post-war period, many Soviet citizens sent on their own initiative donations for the struggle for peace.

For a strict accounting of such contributions and control over their spending, a public organization was created on April 27, 1961 on the initiative of the public - the Soviet Peace Fund. The Foundation for peace never had an income from the budget; the main sources of the Fund were charitable donations from individuals, businesses and public organizations.

The founders of the Soviet Peace Fund, along with the Soviet Peace Protection Committee were the Committee of Youth Organizations of the USSR, Soviet Women's Committee, the Union of Soviet Societies for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries. The first chairman of the Board of the Soviet Peace Fund was a famous poet Nikolai Tikhonov.

The Peace Fund enjoyed the well-deserved reputation at home and abroad. It truly became the material base of the "people's diplomacy".

For many years the Chairman of the Foundation was well-known veteran writer Boris Polevoy, author of the famous book called "The Story about a Real Man." After his death, the Chairman of the foundation was the world chess champion Anatoly Karpov.

The Russian Peace Fund became the legal successor of the Soviet Peace Fund. It was headed by social activist, journalist and writer Dmitry Mamleev.

In June 2002 the Chairman of the Board of the Russian Peace Foundation was Leonid Slutsky - State Duma Deputy, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, doctor of economic sciences.

Among the members of the Management Board of RPF are the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, the poet A.Dementyev, writer A.Salutsky, Rector of MGIMO (University) and the Russian Foreign Ministry A. Torkunov, and other public figures.

On March 27, 2003 the RPF was converted to the International Public Foundation "Russian Peace Fund" (Certificate of Registration of the Ministry of Justice of Russian Federation № 6).

The main activities of the Russian Peace Foundation are to promote peace, friendship and understanding between peoples, the development of humanism and mercy, charity, and prevention of national, religious and social conflicts, protection of human rights, protection of environment, development of international cooperation, scientific, cultural and youth exchanges, etc.

The Foundation's activities involve hundreds of thousands of people. They are war veterans and the disabled, youth, children, culture and science activists, representatives of partner non-governmental organizations in Russia and abroad (USA, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Spain, Bulgaria, China, Vietnam and other countries), representatives of the Russian Orthodox Churches and other religious denominations, activists of the Fund.

The branches of RPF are actively working in 56 regions of the Russian Federation.

RPF is registered under the UN, has pattern of participation in the Council of Europe.

Over the years, the Foundation has been involved in the movement of the North Callote countries combining peacekeepers of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia.

RPF was awarded with a Diploma of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for the long-term cooperation in familiarizing the Russian public with the problems of refugees of concern to UNHCR.

The representatives of the foundation have participated in the program "Open World", organized by the Library of the U.S. Congress.

In 2002 in Kaliningrad RPF organized and held European International NGO Forum "Russia - EU: prospects for cooperation in the Baltic region"; in 2005 the foundation took part in the International Forum "The Role of NGOs in the cross-border cooperation in the Northwest." The Fund for Peace was one of the most active organizers and participants of the International Congress of NGOs of CIS countries and Baltic States on cooperation in science, culture and education, held in November 2005 in St. Petersburg under the patronage of the Russian Federation Council. In March 2006, the RPF took part in the International Forum named "Civil Eight".

RPF is an official partner of the Presidential Council for the Promotion of Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights.

• Since 2000 L.Slutsky has been  the deputy head of delegation of the Federal Assembly to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE);
• Since January 2012 - Vice-President of PACE;
• Up to 2012 he was the coordinator of the Deputy Group for Relations with the Parliament of the Republic of France.
• Member of the Presidium of the Independent Association "Civil Society". At the PACE L.Slutsky prepared a series of reports: "On activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross" (2002), "On the accession of Monaco to the Council of Europe" (2004) - as a result it was decided to admit the Principality of Monaco to the Council of Europe as the 46th state; "On closing the monitoring procedure of the Principality of Monaco" - as a result the first time in the history of the PACE monitoring of Monaco was closed unanimously on 01.10.2009.

• Order of Friendship for his contribution to strengthening international cooperation, harmonization and mutual enrichment of cultures (2008);
• Order of the Legion of Honor - France's highest award for the development of parliamentary relations between Russia and France and active peacemaking (2006);
• Order of Grimaldi - the highest award of the Principality of Monaco for an active contribution to the development of inter-parliamentary relations (2007);
• Order of Friendship (Azerbaijan, 2010).
